snow!

I had the joy of introducing Cedar to snow again. He doesn't remember it from last year so it was fun to see him explore it again. I think I made about 50 snowballs. I also introduced him to hot chocolate.

2!

Cedar turned 2 yesterday. We packed the day full... feeding the ducks at City Park, oranges for snack, lunch and a new book with Nana, a bike ride to the park with Dad, dinner with Grandpa and Nana and a party! We had a zoo themed party because of his "slight" obsession with animals. I got to put my 4-H Grand Champion cake decorating skills to the test. It's been quite a few years, but thanks to some help from my mom, sister and pinterest it turned out well. Because we have so many birthdays in the fall as a family he is learning what birthday party means. This actually turned out to be a great party... Cedar loved his cake, but was so excited that he didn't actually eat any of it! He did a great job sharing his gifts with his cousins and the only real tears were after his nap, before dinner, which is normally the time for grumpiness and tears in our family.

Cedar at 2 years:
• Loves: animals, balls, books, cars, garbage trucks, chasing Lucca, racing, riding his bike, buses, curious george, veggie tales, pizza, oranges, grapes, eggs...
• Imogene needs the crib at this point so we put Cedar in a mattress on the floor. This arrangement worked well for 2 days. Bedtime usually isn't a problem, but nap time has become a bit of a challenge. I close his door when I put him to bed and don't have to go back in until he is awake. He usually talks and plays with his stuffed animals a little bit before falling asleep. Now that he can get out of bed he talks and rolls around for about 15 minutes and then comes and knocks on his door. I have to open the door, send him back to bed and we do it over and over until he finally falls asleep. In the morning we are usually woken up by the sound of little knocks on the door across the hall. At least it isn't crying.
• Cedar loves his Animal Parade vitamins that we have been giving him. They come in handy because they usually work as a "reset" button if he is in a grumpy mood.
• I have grown to despise crab apples. They fall off the tree very early on and every time we pass one on a walk or bike ride he feels the need to throw every crab apple he can find into the street. I would like to say a big "your welcome" to all our neighbors for ridding their sidewalks of unwanted crab apples, rotten apples and rocks. Our neighborhood sidewalks are free of small obstacles thanks to a little 2 year old.
• Nothing is little to him. If I call something little he will correct me. "No Mom, it's BIG."
• Cedar wants to go to the zoo every day. Usually mid sentence talking about something different he will announce he wants to go to the zoo and "see animals" with Nana.
• He has started to sing in the car along with our toddler song cd... hilarious! He has "The Wheels on the Bus" down pretty well and "This is the Day That the Lord Has Made" is coming along.
• All of his toys "jump" right now. He has been told that he can only throw balls so all the other animals and cars "jump", which is suspiciously similar to his throw.
• Nothing is better than hearing him repeat to us what he has learned in church. Each week they learn about something that God has made. Last time he learned that God made grandparents. He is excited to tell us and loves going to church... probably because they have swings in the nursery.
• His vocabulary is exploding. He has picked up "oh my gosh," probably from me and used it appropriately when he saw a large toy giraffe at the zoo. He also like to tell Rob and I no... "No Daddy, no" and tells me "Mom, get coffee, come sit."
• We are blessed an honored to be a part of this little BIG life.

fall

Jumping in leaves and feeding ducks... what more could a little boy want?
Well, he really wanted to go to the zoo, but this is what he got instead.

Feeding the ducks involves his two favorite things... throwing and animals.

good morning!

This is how Imogene wakes up each morning. Calm, happy and content. If only we could all wake up like this.

Imogene * 3 months

Imogene's personality to starting to blossom. She is smiling and has started to laugh. Although she wouldn't really do either when I was trying to take her picture. Cedar was distracting her with his animals the whole time. The cow even made a little cameo appearance in one of the above photos. Imogene is generally sleeping 7-10 hours at night, which is amazing compared to Cedar at this age. And look at that belly... she has plenty of calories stored up to last through the night!
