Chris Melby, my father-in-law, is passing on his love and knowledge of mountaineering to me. We snowshoed up the Long's Peak trail near Estes Park and then veered off to Chasm Lake. Not many people see the sights of the lake like we did. Unbelievable. It was really fun to get to use my crampons and ice axe for the first time. The wind was ferocious in places, but mostly a really beautiful day.
Our little kitchen is getting a makeover. We brought countertops and a few other goodies back from Austin. We ripped out some cabinets and replaced them with open shelves. I am still working on finishing the pantry that is next to the hanging pots. I framed in a huge abyss in the wall to make it and am fitting some antique windows as doors. Hopefully we'll add a new floor soon.
we spent Christmas in Austin this year with the Jernigans. unfortunately we didn't take many pictures. we had a great time playing games and wii... rob and i got beat by kate and nathan most of the time. thanks heather, dave, nathan and kate for a fun vacation!

the ice skating rink was closed, so the next best thing... bowling! my dad beat everyone with a bum knee.
