Moab

Entertaining each other on the car ride. This situation also gave way to their first fights.

Scoping out the terrain.

Setting up camp.

Our little biker... fitting in to the Moab culture.

Finding the next cairn to lead us up the trail.

Since spring break in Florida wasn't in the cards for us this year we decided to create a few family memories and go camping in Utah. About 5 hours into our 9 hour car ride we realized we had reached the maximum amount of time we should all be in the car together and began to question the sanity in this choice. Upon arrival to Moab I gave Cedar a quick talk about snakes. Last time Rob and I were in this area we had a close call with a Rattlesnake. After giving him a stern lesson on what we do when we see a snake he spent the entire trip talking about not seeing a snake and that it was at home. We also discovered on the drive that he thinks beavers are scary, but not lions or dinosaurs. Hmmm.

Luckily we found a campsite just as the sun went over the red ridge behind us and we enjoyed hotdogs and marshmallows over the campfire. Both kids slept better than we expected and loved playing in the dirt around the campsite. We brought home quite a bit of this dirts as it infiltrated every ounce of clothing and gear that we brought.

We spent our time hiking in Arches National Park, which has wonderful hikes for kids. Cedar loved walking and jumping on the rocks. He refused to be carried even as he was falling asleep after hiking 3 miles round trip to Delicate Arch. Imogene had a great first camping trip and was content getting hauled up the trails in the Ergo. The weather was pretty chilly each day until the sun burned off the clouds around noon, and then it heated up pretty quickly. If it weren't for the long car ride, which neither of our kids particularly enjoyed, we would make this trip more often. There is much more to explore around Moab and I am sure we will do this spring break trip again.
